About the Artist
Christine L. Ford

New Mexico Artist

As a horsewoman and a biologist, I love both western subjects and wildlife.  I have a profound respect for animals and nature and feel committed to portray the kindness in a horse's eye, the textures of an animal’s fur, or the simple pleasure of being out in the natural environment.

I am a representational painter, illustrator, printmaker (etchings & mezzotints) and sculptor of horses, dogs, cats, and birds.  I research my subject’s carefully in order to be as accurate as possible in the anatomy and morphology of the animals and birds I am portraying.  I work to capture the personality and soul of the animals through their eyes. Each piece I work on represents hours of work, over weeks of trial and intense thought, as I strive to capture every small detail or fine texture of the subject.

I work closely with several rescue organizations and a percentage of my commission goes to help homeless or abused animals. I gain inspiration from my own dogs, cats and horses as well as all the animals in need of finding their forever home.

As humans persist in encroaching upon much of the western landscape and more wildlife habitats disappear, I will continue to gain inspiration from the simple beauty of animals and nature.

Christine lives in New Mexico with her husband, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 horses.
